Faith And Successful Human Development - Free Essay Example

Intro As we enter the young adult world you hear many terms about what life will be like. We are faced with many possibilities or so we are told to expect that. Some days are those that we want to wake up for while others are those that we cannot wait to get home and crawl into bed. Being a graduate student has been a dream of mine for many years since late high school. A few goals I plan to reach through my graduate school are to open my own adoption agency, lead a path toward counseling, increase income, gain new experiences and form stability. I decided to enroll in American College of Education as a graduate student to grow as a young adult, gain stability financially, hold higher means in my career and allow myself to gain knowledge; to walk by faith. Intent A persons intent toward something is when they put their entire focus into a single things to create a dream. It is the purpose behind out acted behavior and intentions. My intent to enroll in grad school was simply; for stability. Somethings I have learned about learning is that we all learn in different ways; some need to visualize, some need to listen, and some need to touch. Learning is a concept that is always growing, we need to ask, speak out, and leave our comfort zone in order to expand. Learnings is based through interactions, communications, passions, and collaboration. I feel learning needs to hold a purpose, a meaning behind what we are doing; we need to meet an intellectual and emotional end; and we then turn that around to our stories that we pass on. Hardships God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. Serenity Prayer Wisdom is often believed to be the quintessence of successful human development. (Ardelt, 2005). Many days of my life after graduating college in 2016 were led by this statement. While in college you hear a lot of things about how after graduation things will fall into place and take order. You anxiously await these days while you are enrolled in school, counting down the days to walk across that stage. For myself I graduated and landed a decent job right out of college in a small town in South Carolina. I was able to work within that job for a year before my husband got orders to be stationed elsewhere causing us to move. The move ended up turning down quickly after we moved to Georgia. The town we were living in was a very small and did not have much growth. This took a tool on personal perception because I noticed a lot of friends who were receiving great jobs and starting life. I felt left out, down about the ways things were working out, I kept asking myself what is wrong with my degree here?. That was the worst part of this section of my hardship; I started doubting my degree due to being told I was over qualified for jobs in town. The best option I had was to drive over and hour to and from for work, that a lot started out at entry level jobs. I felt annoyed with this due to the fact that I was putting so much work on my car every month driving back and forth and the stress it added to the rest of my life with being gone for twelve hours a day. First Intent The first intent that becoming a graduate student professional would be to open my own adoption agency and run it as my own boss. Ive been passionate about adoption/foster care for many years due to a person aspect of my life. This passion started due to myself being adopted as a baby so I want to be the one who can help change other childrens lives. I have learned through this program thus far that every environment has external and internal aspects that affect the daily live and organization of the business. The modules of educational business has taught myself that I need to limit resources and look deeper into where they are all going to create the best environment I can. Second Intent My second intent as a graduate student would be to serve as a counselor within the educational setting and or a child advocate agency such as prior stated adoption. The teachings of these modules have taught myself that every child comes from a different background, every town has different aspects that shape the schooling system. This will allow myself to adapt to each child or case that I may be faced with in the working field. Third Intent The third intent I plan to achieve from being a graduate student would be to form stability and create a greater chance of income for myself. As stated in the hardships Ive faced, low income has been one of the greatest issues Ive faced with my bachelors in my current location. Income sounds like a small matter when dealing with everyday issues but it took a toll on my personal image of myself due to not being able to provide for myself or husband; it started a wedge between the two of us. I plan to use the knowledge that this educational setting has taught me about proper agendas and analysis to become a successful worker in any field that I may encounter and create stability for myself. Fourth Intent My fourth purpose of becoming a graduate student would be to gain experience within this educational setting. I have worked within a middle school setting but with the knowledge that I have gained and will continue to gain within this degree; it will allow for myself to grow rapidly due to putting my education toward goals. This degree will allow for myself to use what I have learned and create the experience through hard work and determination in any setting I may work within. Fifth Intent My last intent is simply; to create change within. Companies that are strong start from the nucleus meaning we build a strong core and grow off of that. I want to be able to start that nucleus and expand the aspirations that we share. A strong company wants change to be in a positive direction; this program allows for myself to understand this. I can walk into any company knowing my knowledge is strong, my work is wanted and I am capable to handle the means. Conclusion When we make a life changing decision to enroll back into college we take on many opportunity pathways. We are structured to want to do the best that we can within our career and to not stop for anything. In some cases it can be challenging to align our wants and needs within a job and we may have to extend our education. Every job and person is different and the program allows for knowledge of diversity within educations settings and personal aspirations. I aim to take this masters program to grow as a human, expand knowledge from within, create stability, and to keep faith by myside. References Ardelt, Monika. (2005). Rich and Unhappy or Poor and Happy Essay Example

Rich and Unhappy or Poor and Happy Paper * Choosing a career that pays well, but makes a person unhappy, and choosing a career that   makes a person   happy, but does not pay well. What is the purpose of life? What is the one thing that truly matters in order to experience a meaningful, gratifying existence? Some people might say that love and happiness are all one needs in order to live a fulfilling life, where no amount of materialistic wealth will amount to the same level of contentment as a life where one’s career is something that one strongly believes in and has passion for. Others, however, might argue that the only path to an enjoyable life is when one is able to live luxuriously. To have the finest, rarest, most expensive items or clothing is to have value and importance in society, which in turn, makes life worth living. In order to reach this stage, necessary steps need to be taken even if it causes unhappiness doing so. Choosing a career that ensures a generous paycheck will guarantee a life filled with materialistic commodities, but it doesn’t guarantee the benefits of a career that entices them, such as the drive or desire to work and the gratification one feels that might affect their emotional well being for the better. Yet, Choosing a career that sparks interest and passion guarantees a feeling of fulfillment but may not guarantee a substantial enough pay to enjoy some of society’s luxuries, such as the ability to travel or not having to worry about putting food on the table which otherwise might lead to stress that is harmful to one’s health. Should one choose a career that pays well, but makes one unhappy? Or should one choose a career that makes one happy, but barely pays the rent. A life filled with the luxuries that our society provides can be seen by many to be a much-desired way to live. For them, the end result overcomes the means to get there, such as a stressful, unrewarding career who’s only redeeming aspect is a substantial paycheck. The ability to purchase the materialistic objects of ones desires, such as a fancy car, or a big house, is enough for some people to put themselves through school in a programme that doesn’t stimulate them emotionally, or intellectually. Nevertheless, with the disposable income, one would be able to take part in activities outside of work that is enjoyable and stimulating, like traveling or going to various cultural events that are out of reach for those with lower incomes. However, while one may be enjoying life outside of work, the harsh reality is that one spends the majority of the week at ones job, so in reality, a huge portion of one’s life is spent in apathy and indifference if the work doesn’t invoke any sort of enjoyment. As this continues over the years, depression is likely to follow due to the constant dread and lethargy that goes along with the job, and the realization that it will be like that day in and day out for years to come. For those who choose this way of life, happiness equates to the number of possessions they gained with their hard earned money, regardless of the mundane work they had to go through in order to achieve it, unless of course, they realize they made a huge mistake choosing money over their actual dreams and aspirations when its already too late. Other people have a completely different view of life as the ones who value money in high regard. These people see the benefits of a life filled with things that give them satisfaction, with the choice of career being a huge component of it. When one decides to spend the rest of ones life doing something that one is passionate and excited about, the wage it garners wouldn’t be high on one’s list of concerns, especially if it means that waking up every morning wouldn’t be such a dreaded daily event. The mere thought of spending another day doing something one enjoys is enough to keep one motivated throughout the longevity of their career. There are a few instances however, that may cause certain hesitation. For example, a young aspiring artist might be satisfied with a one-bedroom that doubles as their studio while eating ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner for now, but what if down the road they decide they want to settle down and have a family before they are able to make a profit from their art, which might not never even happen in the first place? The pressure of this realization and the constant worry of having to make ends meet could be detrimental down the line. Soon, the joys that the job brings could be overshadowed by the stress produced by this situation. Fortunately, most people that choose to go down this path are able to make ends meet and are content with living in the simplest terms as long as their lives revolve around the career of their liking. The decision of choosing which career path to take is probably one the most important, tear-inducing decisions a person has to make in their lifetime. It will dictate the way their life will go from that day forward nd the means on which they must live by. Whether it is a career that will bestow significant financial gain, or a career that will bestow significant personal gain, the decision rests on the personal opinions of the individual’s definition of a happy life. Even though this decision is entirely subjective, there is a stat that is worth mentioning; over a third of an average person’s life is spent working. Is being able to by the latest Prada really worth hating a m assive part of one’s existence?

Evaluate Sainsbury plcs financial strategy Essay - 1

Evaluate Sainsbury plcs financial strategy - Essay Example In spite of these speculations, it has risen to be the leader for the last two decades. Sainsbury has relied heavily on equity capital to finance its operations in the recent past. The management consists of the contributors of the needed capital. Being a company based in United Kingdom, where a company with more than 50% of its capital is considered highly geared, the management made a move in the year 2006 to incorporate high level gearing for the following reasons: This is another significant source of funds for Sainsbury Company. This dividend reinvestment plan allows stakeholders to reinvest their cash dividends through purchasing more shares in the market through a significant prearranged share dealing service. No new shares are allotted under this plan. It involves adding more value to the existing ones through a systematic way in order to achieve a balanced portfolio. The price and value of these shares fluctuate in response to the market waves. Stakeholders are fore warned of this possibility because the reinvested dividends in the form of shares may end up with a value or price that is less than the anticipated. Shareholders may then end up getting less than what they invested. Past performance is a guide to clear shareholders doubts and for those who are not sophisticated enough to understand the fir past performance are advised to seek the assistance of professional financial advisors. To aid in understanding of Sainsbury dividend policy, this paper acknowledges the importance of reviewing theories on dividend policies. With empirical research continuously being conducted by scholars on dividend policy, no consensus has ever emerged has scholars continuously keep disagreeing about the same empirical evidence. They all agree that dividend policy refers to management practices in making decisions on the criteria and amount of dividends to be paid to shareholders overtime. However, three dividend policy

Do violent video games lead to violent behaviour among young people Essay - 1

Do violent video games lead to violent behaviour among young people - Essay Example Such games have a very negative impact on the mind-set of the young children who play such games. The fictitious events are often considered reality by innocent children who lack a proper sense of direction. The events portrayed in the game change the mind-set of young children. Children very often try stunts on their friends which are shown in violent video games. Playing violent video games increases aggression among people who play it and there are no two ways about it. â€Å"One study reveals that young men who are habitually aggressive may be especially vulnerable to the aggression-enhancing effects of repeated exposure to violent games," said psychologists Craig A. Anderson, Ph.D., and Karen E. Dill, Ph.D. "The other study reveals that even a brief exposure to violent video games can temporarily increase aggressive behavior in all types of participants† (Violent Video Games Can Increase Aggression). â€Å"On average, there is a significant tendency for the studies to yield an increase in aggression by those who have played the violent games," said Craig Anderson, an Iowa State University professor and leading researcher on the effects of media violence.† (Violent Video games under Attack). There are enough evidences which prove that playing violent video games give rise to violence in the society. This is extremely bad for the society, it is high time that this is realized and something should be done about it sooner rather than later. Every coin is two sided, playing games also has benefits. It relaxes a person and it is very entertaining to play games. The relaxation derived from playing games is immense and cannot be out into words. Research also proves that playing games makes the mind sharper and the response rate of the mind goes up by a significant level. â€Å"Nottingham Trent University professor Mark Griffiths said they can be a

Concept of Sustainable Development

The concept of sustainable development is based on the rising environmental problems, socio-economic issues to do with poverty and inequality, and concerns about a healthy future for humanity. There is no definitive definition of sustainable development as it is thought of differently by many other people throughout the world. Sustainable Development is founded on the principle that mankind should advance without causing permanent damage to ecosystems and the resources they provide, how these resources are used, the processes that are used to get these resources and who has access to them. All the above stated should be taken into consideration without posing risks to future generations. Sustainable development can be seen as as the connection between environment, society and economy, which is thought of being separate yet connected bodies. The economy is often given priority in policies and the environment is viewed as apart from humans. They are directly linked where the economy is dependent on society and the environment, and society is dependent on, and within the environment. Issues to do with society such as sustainability of communities and the maintenance of cultural diversity are often sidelined.Economics came to be the leading issue of human relations with economic growth, defined by increasing production, as the main priority. Changing the quality of growth, meeting important needs, merging environment and economics in decision making while emphasizing human development, participation in decisions and equality in benefits are things that can be done to eliminate poverty, meet human needs and ensure that all get a fair share of resources. Social justice today and in the future is a key component of the concept of sustainable development. This is seen as the key to humanity’s well-being and, through growth, poverty would be reduced. Most countries have no programs or policies that offer any real hope of narrowing the growing gap between rich and p oor. This has caused damage to the environment which we depend on, with a downward spiral of poverty and environmental degradation. Environmental problems threaten people’s health, livelihoods and lives and threaten future generations. Global prosperity and human well-being can be achieved through increased global trade and industry. Green engineering is designing, building and manufacturing of products and processes including energy utilization and waste production that has the least negative impact on the environment possible. It includes all of the engineering disciplines, and is based off of current engineering design principles. Green Engineering can be defined as environmentally conscious attitudes, values, and principles, combined with science, technology, and engineering practice, all directed toward improving local and global environmental quality. It is usually used when referring to buildings, but it can be used for automobiles, lights or any other sort of system or device that requires engineering. Current design concepts in automobiles that are considered environmentally friendly are hybrid technologies; flex fuel vehicles, and even electricity.Though green engineering is somewhat more expensive, many countries, recognizing the value of this type of engineering by offering tax breaks and other incentives to the people and companies that incorporate its use. Green engineers need to understand how building materials, techniques and other components can be made in an environmentally-friendly way. This may include the use of solar powered appliances, especially water heaters, solar lights or windows and other design elements. Elements outside the building, such as the irrigation system and other landscaping features need to be taken into consideration also.It is likely that in the very near future we will be seeing â€Å"green cities† where cities are constructed to be healthy and environmentally friendly environments thus alleviating iss ues such as poverty in inequality within society. How Employees Can Be Motivated To Higher Levels Of...

According to history, the notion of compensation for work pre-dates to sometime between 10,000 BC and 1,000 BC during the Neolithic Revolution (Wikipedia). Back then, salt was used as payment till around 560 BC when coins came into circulation and money was invented (Wikipeida). Money became widely used as the payment for labour. To date, money is still the main medium of exchange between employer and employee. In today’s highly competitive market, organisations are often faced with increased competition from both domestic and foreign markets. To be able to stay competitive, attract and retain quality employees, it is imperative that the organisation have a compensation package that is valuable to its employees (Naresh 1998). Although†¦show more content†¦For most employees, base pay constitutes the largest component of their total compensation rewards package. It is given to employees based on time worked and not on any measure of output produced or performance contributions. Benefits are generally the second largest component of the employee compensation rewards package. While certain benefits are statutorily required, the remaining are usually negotiated by the employee unions or provided voluntarily by the organization. Benefits are generally given to employees based on how long they have worked for their present employer. Thus, benefits along with base pay help the organisation to attract and retain employees. The last component of compensation rewards is performance pay which is awarded based on some measure of output produced or performance contributions. For most salaried employees, this is given in the form of merit pay increase which is folded into base pay. Merit pay increases are tied to performance ratings of individual employees but generally bear a weak relationship to the organizations economic performance. With reference to Figure 1 (Lawler 1987), the framework shows that elements in the compensation system, i.e. performance measurement and evaluation, monetary compensation and career concerns links employee performance to their rewards in the form of monetary compensation and promotions.
